Caritas Mauritanie is an organization non gouvernementale de droit mauritanien fondée in 1972.

Son mandat est de suutenir les populations démunies et marginalisées. In the raison of the Mauritania social context, the majority of its interventions are menées in favor of local structures and vulnerable populations: détenus, migrants, women's cooperatives, groupements, Mauritanian associations, and compris des structures naissantes et informelles.

ACHIEVEMENTS

The activities of Caritas Mauritania have evolved over the years and according to the humanitarian context. The projects implemented target food security, community integration and access to income-generating activities. The training aspect is the basis of this integrated local (or neighborhood) development: community organization, literacy, initiation and vocational training, planning. Responses are provided to forms of exclusion that require more personalized responses: prisoners, young illiterate or school dropouts, migrants.

Caritas Mauritania favors local support, with decentralized animation teams in the areas of intervention. The stakeholders (beneficiary populations, local authorities) are associated in a participatory manner in the identification of needs, the reflection on the responses to be provided, the implementation and the evaluation.

Caritas trains local organizations to prepare for the sustainability of its actions.

In 2021, its action benefited 90,337 direct beneficiaries and 376,457 indirect beneficiaries.

STRATEGIC PLAN

Caritas Mauritania's projects reflect the five missions of the strategic plan, defined in 2017 for a period of 10 years: (i) Contribute to improving the inclusion and mobility of the most vulnerable groups through access to rights ; (ii) Strengthen the capacities of civil society in terms of participation in development and citizenship; (iii) Contribute to improving food security and resilience in rural areas through integrated development; (iv) Support local development in urban areas; and (v) Promote the professional integration and employment of young people.

INSTITUTION

Caritas Mauritania was incorporated on December 8, 1972 and authorized on the 30th of the same month by the Ministry of the Interior (note 02.137/M.INT). It is a humanitarian and development NGO, governed by the provisions relating to Mauritanian associations: law 64.098 of June 8, 1964 relating to associations, supplemented by those of laws n ° 73.007 of January 23, 1973, n ° 73157 of July 2, 1973, and n°2000-043 of July 26, 2000.

Caritas Mauritania signed a general protocol agreement for cooperation with the government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania on April 12, 1980. This protocol was ratified by the President of the Mauritanian State on October 21, 1980, under Ordinance No. 80.277, published in the Official Journal.

Caritas Mauritania is a member of Caritas Internationalis, a network of 166 national member organisations. This membership is reflected in partnership links at different levels with member organisations: exchange relations, technical and financial support for projects, network facilitation, provision of volunteers or cooperators, participation in working groups. It respects the 2019 – 2023 strategic framework of the Confederation, “One human family, one common home”.

Caritas Mauritania has adhered to the Management Standards (NG) of Caritas Internationalis (CI). Thus, the application of NG is part of the procedures of Caritas Mauritania. NGs help us preserve the image of Caritas and strengthen the culture and accountability to all partners. CM members (staff, volunteers, CAs) are expected to abide by the Staff Codes of Ethics and Conduct and the CI Safeguard Policy. This obligation also applies to CM partners (technical and financial partners, service providers, etc.).
