Testimony of a committed young person: Papis
Today we meet Papis, a young, committed and voluntary member of the Zaata neighborhood youth group. He is 27 years old and holds a degree in Geography and a Master's degree in Migration, both obtained in Nouakchott.
He currently works as a journalist and communicator, in addition to his activist commitment. Before meeting Caritas, Papis did theater and filming within the framework of the neighborhood association to which he belongs, trying to "sensitize people about theater."
He tells us that it was Caritas who united the different neighborhood associations within the Zaata group, which brings together cooperatives, youth and cultural groups. For him, in the meeting between the groups and Caritas, culture presented itself as the ideal means to transmit messages.
As for his training with Caritas, he explains that Caritas would, whenever a new training took place, call for applications within the group, which allowed him to attend leadership, dialogue with the authorities, personal development, journalism courses since 2015 (where he learned to make reports and film) as well as communication techniques.
Papis then tells us that this experience with Caritas has given him confidence in himself as well as camera and editing skills, has opened doors for him, and that is why he has been able to work for NGOs to make awareness videos shot, among others, in the regions of Djaj and Nouadhibou. The young man still has some difficulties, especially in the purchase of material, he often has to wait to sign a contract to have the opportunity to buy quality material to replace the second-hand material found in the meantime.
His goal is to have his own audiovisual house to transmit the message of the young people of Dar Naïm about violence, drugs, and to be able to train other young people in the trades of journalism.
For Papis, it is important to promote Caritas and its training because they help young people from the neighborhoods to get ahead in life.
